WEEK 7 - Top 15 IDP Free Agent Studs

After another excellent week of NFL football, we thought it wise to take a look at some possible free Agent IDP stars who dominated week 7.  It stands to reason, linebackers like Malcolm Smith and Chris Borland, who took over for starters, had good games.  However, long in the tooth stars like Jay Ratliff, James Ihedigbo, and Elvis Dumervil were also key parts to their defenses this week.  Take a look at these players when trying to make decisions for week eight and beyond.

Week 6 - TOP 25 Running Backs

In our Blast From the Past of last week, we found backup running backs littered the week 6 top performers list in 2013.  The trend hasn't changed in 2014! In the illustration below, you can see 11 of the top 25 scoring running backs of the week could have been had off waivers or for a very late pick in the draft.  All in all, the stud first round picks took care of business as well, taking the top four spots, but if you had a tough time drafting RBs in August, you could be better off than those who spent a bunch of top picks on RB in 2014.  For week seven going forward, look for the backup running back trend to continue.

BLAST FROM THE PAST - WEEK 6 - Backup Running Back Value

Week six started out with a bang on Thursday, with the Indianapolis Colts squeezing by the Houston Texans 33-28.  The game featured plenty of big plays, including 4 TDs from the running backs. One of those touchdowns belonged to Ahmad Bradshaw, who at the beginning of the season, was not expected to contribute much in the fantasy world, but now has been an every week start in many leagues. With so many starting running backs out or injured in 2014 (Peterson, Ball, Jennings, Mathews, etc.), it is now prudent to find backup/RBBC running backs that can be used regularly in fantasy football.  We found an interesting phenomenon in week 6 of 2013, in that there were 10 backups/RBBC RBs that produced like starters, including Brandon Jacobs who exploded for nearly 24 points.  2014 is no different right now, with guys like Brandon Oliver, Matt Asiata, and Andre Williams producing.  So, when analyzing your RB2 and Flex position options, be sure to consider backup running backs as a viable option. You'll be happy you did.
